Irene Vine de Hoyos
I am an independent midwife covering Suffolk, Essex, East London and Cambridge.
I am most passionate about women stepping into their power and health professionals not taking it away from them, whatever this means for you: homebirth, freebirth, declining routine care, avoiding interventions or fully embracing the medical model. I feel very strongly about supporting women’s journeys in rediscovering our inner power and spirituality through reconnecting to the wisdom in our bodies. I welcome clients from all walks of life and backgrounds, especially all those that will not fit in a tick box and that an institutionalised maternity service cannot accommodate for. I have over 10 years experience in the maternity world, from my start as a doula, my years in the community and birth centre in a busy London hospital, and finally my university lecturing and motherhood experiences.
We had a great experience with Irene as our independent midwife. She supported my wife and I throughout the whole journey, right up to and after the birth. She gave us a real sense of continuity of care and made sure we were prepared for everything. By helping us be as informed and prepared as possible, Irene helped my wife have a positive birth experience, and she helped me feel confident and ready to advocate for her. We’re very grateful for her support and would happily recommend her.
A. & N.
I offer bespoke private midwifery continuity of care, and my services span from pregnancy support (as early as 8 weeks), birth preparation and homebirth (or hospital birth) to postnatal care and breastfeeding support. I work closely with a second midwife for the birth and lactation consultant for the postnatal period, all included in your package.
I am trained in biomechanics which I teach as part of our sessions and I use them during the birth to help with labour progress. I also offer support with baby wearing, cloth napping, responsive parenting skills, co-sleeping advice and elimination communication.
I specialise in care outside the guidelines as I love critiquing research and unpicking it to help you make sense of it for your choices, which is a skilled I polished after my advanced midwifery practice masters. So far I have supported clients that have gone past 42 weeks, that have had no scans, some that had high BP, VBAC, previous PPH, GDM, breech, GBS+, IVF, LGA, declining GTT, VEs,Vit K, etc. And they all planned for a homebirth!
I believe that birth works best when left alone so your physiology and intuition can guide you. We will spend lots of time preparing for birth, working on your confidence and fears so on the day you feel like you don’t need me. My role is to recognise when things deviate from normal and suggest a change of plans or act if its an emergency, but you will be at the driving seat, always.
We had such great experience with Irene, she was very attentive to our needs as first time parents and gave so much of her knowledge, time and support. We felt that we were able to developed life long knowledge through her, especially with all of the resources and gifts that came with the service. It was especially memorable for us as a couple, as we were able to grow and understand together! Which really prepared us for the labour, ensuring we stayed calm and collected as we felt quite confident with our understanding of the process. Can’t recommend Irene enough!
