Judicial Review, additional date added.
Our members and clients spent 2 days in the high court recently as part of a judicial review against the decision of the regulator, the Nursing and Midwifery Council. At the moment, the NMC’s decision effectively prevents our members from practising as independent midwives, and that will remain the position if the ruling is not overturned. The hearing was scheduled for two days, but could not be completed in that time. Therefore the court has now scheduled a third day, 15 November, for both sides to return to court to complete giving evidence. It is unlikely that judgment will be given immediately following the hearing. It is more likely that it will be withheld, and so the outcome will not be known for at least two or three weeks after that.
Due to this additional day in court, additional legal costs will be incurred by the claimants. The Gofundme page will therefore continue to receive donations and we’d like to again thank everyone for the contributions already made.
